‘They were just out there to pick up a taxi’: Police say taxi squad officers were just ‘out there to do their job’

Vancouver police say a taxi squad officer was hit by a vehicle during a collision with a truck.

Two people were injured.

The collision happened at the intersection of Bayshore Boulevard and North Cascades Highway.

B.C. Ambulance Service spokeswoman Julie Wojcik says the collision happened around 1:30 p.m.

Monday.

Wojcik says paramedics were on the scene to transport the driver of the truck to the hospital.

“The collision was actually a hit-and-run.

The driver of that vehicle fled the scene.

We’re still trying to identify him.

We are trying to locate the truck driver.

We don’t know where he is,” she said.

A police spokesperson says the incident is under investigation and the driver is in custody.

Police are warning drivers of the area to stay at least 150 metres away from the intersection.

The B.C.-Ontario border, which is about 40 kilometres south of the city, is closed until further notice.
